What can we say? We have love for Montreal. The city's become the unofficial Mecca for artists looking to veer left from the ordinary and create their own lane, and right now, I don't know if there's anyone in Montreal who represents that outlook more so than @www.soundcloud.com/grownfolk. Between putting out releases on underground dance labels such as Templar Sound and Icee Hott, to being the goto producers for Oakland rap maestros Main Attrakionz, the duo has emerged as one of the most diverse acts in the game, finding their groove in both the electronic and hip-hop worlds and pushing the boundary for what it means to be a true producer in the year 2013.
Since forming in 2010, Grown Folk have come a long way in two years and this week sees the release of their most complete work to date. "The Boat" / "Keep Few Near", which was released on San Francisco's Icee Hott label, is a sensual blend of smooth and dreamy house music with dark and ominous elements embedded within that could've only emerged from those cold and dark Quebec winters. In light of the release, it's only right that they've served up an equally ethereal mix for LFTF on this Valentine's Day. Because let's be real, who doesn't want to feel a little fantasy on V-Day?
